Hollywood is all about to which length you can go, how much you can dedicate yourself to a role. And while showing their dedications, many celebrities from time and again, have gone through extreme diets, to gain or lose weight, as per their roles have demanded. By day, the list keeps getting longer and here we are counting eight celebrities, who went on such unhealthy diets, to cut short or drastically increase their calorie intake.
Below are few stars who gained or lost weight for their roles:
Chris Hemsworth – The famous ‘Thor’ went on a starvation diet, for his role as Owen Chase in the shipwrecked movie “In the Heart of the Sea.” He dropped down his calorie to 500-700 per day and achieved that lean, shrunk body. It took him almost three to four weeks, to complete the look, and later on, he explained, how hard it was for him to go through it, and that all he kept thinking about was food.
Christian Bale – After Thor, we find another superhero who went on an extreme diet. The Dark Knight himself, went on such diets, not once but twice to lose weight for his movies, namely “The Machinist” and “The Fighter.” It was reported that he lost almost 63 pounds for “The Machinist” and said, if he gets obsessed with a role, he can go to any extreme to achieve what is needed for it.
Charlize Theron – This Oscar-winning South African actress, gained 30 pounds for her 2003 movie “Monster.” Her aim wasn’t looking fat, but to hide her athletic body, and look a bit healthier for her role as a prostitute, and she skillfully did it, which paid her back with the Oscar itself.
50 cent – Losing 54 pounds in nine weeks, is only possible, by sticking to the strict liquid diet, and that it what 50 did, for his role in “Things Fall Apart,” where he portrayed the character of cancer diagnosed football player.
Anne Hathaway – Another dedicated actress Anne Hathaway lost 25 pounds for her 2012 release “Les Misérables,” where she played the role of a near dead prostitute. She consumed even less than 500 calories to look like what she did.
Jared Leto – After the old Dark Knight, we have the new ‘Joker,’ who went on a weird diet spree and gained 60 pounds for his role in “Chapter 27”. He almost forced fed himself, to achieve the look, and later suffered from foot pain for a year at least.
Natalie Portman – Another actress who won Oscar, for going through the pain, is none other than Natalie Portman. She lost 20 pounds for her role in “Black Swan” and was later rewarded with an Oscar. Even her co-star Mila Kunis lost 20 pounds for the movie, and thus both made their characters shine on screen.
Renee Zellweger – She gained almost 20 pounds to play Bridget Jones, in her 2001 release “Bridget Jones’ Diary”. She from size 4 went on to wear size 14, which shocked most of her fans.
